about
this song isn't about the black forest, it is the musings of the black mountain in belfast
lyrics
With the pallor of a spook
And the wiry gait I undertook
There hung from fraying thread
My heart inside my hopeful chest
The gravel underfoot, the slow incline that bends my boot
I’ve lost my precious will, I have burned what I set out to fulfil
But I could dig a fresh gem from the Black Mountain Quarry
Oh! my heart is stone-cold and my soul is full of worry
But I’ll be waiting for the thaw like a little bird told me
Oh Black Mountain Quarry
The rooks cry with remiss
As if to say “I’m tired of this”
While on their sable wing
The stars, the moon and everything
That emanates a glow, is consumed and never spoken of
I too would meet this fate, but no glow have I recovered yet
But I could dig a fresh gem from the Black Mountain Quarry
Oh! my heart is stone-cold and my soul is full of worry
But I’ll be waiting for the thaw like a little bird told me
Oh Black Mountain Quarry

My favorite Lawson album to sleep to. it's so warm and cozy and relaxed, and it does just make me want to Sleep, Eat, Snuggle & Repeat. Very homely and comforting dillon.

Just discovered this ancient gem among the treasures of Steve's collection. Beautiful melodies, intriguing harmonies and textures and fascinating bass sounds unheard elsewhere. chorna

WTF? How was this not in my Bandcamp collection. I must've bought it from a different account before! Anyway, I've been listening to this since before it was released and a decade on it's still a spectacularly perfect collection of songs. Sounds like a greatest hits album. Literally any track could be chosen as my 'favourite'. Truly astonishing. Steve Lawson

Julien Baker is an acquired taste - assuming of course you’ve acquired great taste in singer songwriters… beautiful, devastating, honest, insightful… I’ve not heard a single song of hers that hasn’t left me in absolute awe. crisbroadhurst
